Having been in development for several months, the Grand Haven Downtown Development Authority's branding project is on the horizon. Grand Haven DDA Executive Director Dana Kollewehr said the new branding project is expected to be rolled out in September. "We want to get that thing going,' she said. Grand Haven was selected by the Michigan Main Street program in January to take part in the rebranding services being offered by W. Designs. Boyne City, Clare and Niles were also selected to receive the branding services.

Worship leader and composer Rick Hopkins will be leading Worship on the Waterfront at the Grand Haven Waterfront Stadium from 7:30-8:45 p.m. Sunday. Through his singing and song writing, Hopkins desires to share his life experience and a lifelong journey with God through music. His hope is that it will resonate with the audience longing to see a broken world made right. Hopkins puts his energy and emotion into writing songs that stir people closer to God. He said he also loves to lead worship and be part of a group of people desiring to see God move and be glorified.

Boeve, who has phased out his practice as an orthopedic surgeon in Grand Haven, is working full-time at maintaining a healthy lifestyle. At age 72, Boeve competed in this year's duathlon portion of the Grand Haven Triathlon. He credits his plant-based diet (vegetarian meals) and exercise program for being able to compete in such a strenuous event.

Over the next month, the Northwest Ottawa Recreation Authority will be conducting a Recreational Needs Survey of the area. The survey area includes the cities of Grand Haven and Ferrysburg, Grand Haven, Robinson and Port Sheldon townships; and the Grand Haven Area Public Schools district. NORA officials say the survey will determine the wants and needs of the community. Surveyors will inquire about current satisfaction with facilities, fields and programs, as well as interest in creation of new facilities and expanded program options.

LANSING (AP) - Bass and panfish action is in full swing on the inland lakes, according to the Michigan Department of Natural Resources. The walleye bite has slowed with the extremely warm weather, the DNR said in its weekly fishing report. Heart Throb and Avanti were the first-place boats in the recently-completed Grand River Sailing Club North Shore Marina Cup. Heart Throb took home the top spot in the Spinnaker Fleet by winning the final two races in the four-race series, finishing with 10 points. Heart Throb is captained by Dick Seyffert. Second place went to Stingray, captained by Jim Malek and Myron Constantine, with 12 points. Mac McClelland's JetStar was third with 13 points, followed by Frank Lloyd Starboard (14), Surface Tension (15) and Monkey Wrench (22).

What did music sound like in the early days of America? Who wrote it? What instruments performed it? Muskegon Community College music instructor Donald Hoogenstyn will answer these questions at Loutit District Library on Thursday, July 28, as he presents "Music in Early America' at 7 p.m. Hoogenstyn will discuss colonial music during the John Adams years. He will present examples of both the folk music and some of the authored compositions written in colonial and Revolutionary-era America. Music presented includes works by Hopkinson, Billings, Phile and Carr.

With this week's heat wave continuing to boil residents of the Tri-Cities area, officials from the local power companies say the energy system is handling the extra demand. As of Thursday afternoon, the Grand Haven load was at about 68 megawatts, which Grand Haven Board of Light & Power Director of Production Jeff Chandler said was close to its peak. "Right now, we've got Grand Haven covered with about 3-4 megawatts to spare,' he said.
