Every year, the Tri-Cities Family YMCA makes its programs and services available to all people, regardless of ability to pay. A record number of community pricing applications have been processed so far this year, YMCA officials said. In 2008, Lowell High School started a refreshing trend when it hosted its first Pink Arrow Project game. With an effort led by varsity football coach Noel Dean, the Red Arrows wore pink jerseys in its game against Holland, sold pink T-shirts and used the money to support local cancer patients, create scholarships for Lowell students and support cancer education.

After months in the works, Grand Haven planning commissioners have finally forwarded language to City Council that - if approved - would allow for new wind turbine regulations in the city. The recommendation was approved Tuesday by a vote of 7-1, with Planning Commissioner Justin Arnold voting against the recommendation to council. "The process has been a long process,' Planning Commission Chairwoman Erin Kauth said. "This is actually the second public hearing we've been through.'

Jake Vanderlaan and Willie Bennick fondly remember playing for youth soccer teams such as the Tri-Cities Strikers when they were children. Their experience was made more special, they said, because Mike Herman often volunteered his time to help coach at their practices. "Mike was a huge influence on me,' Vanderlaan said. In an effort to get more information to downtown businesses and building owners about a proposed Principal Shopping District, another informational meeting was held Monday night at the Grand Haven Community Center. The ladies of the Red Hat Society will perform a "Wedding Dress Parade' at Sanctuary at the Shore Nursing Home, 900 S. Beacon Blvd. in Grand Haven, on Wednesday at 2 p.m. It will take place in the home's south dining room. Eight brides dressed in different wedding dresses that have been dyed purple will enter the room one by one in parade form. They will all have brilliantly colored red veils and wearing headpieces that coordinate with their bouquets, which were made to compliment their dresses.
