UPDATE: A 70-year-old Grand Haven man drove his car off Sheldon Road, ran over some trees and a street sign, and damaged a power pole before smashing into a tree shortly after noon Tuesday. David Treloar only suffered minor injuries in the crash, police said. He was taken by ambulance to North Ottawa Community Hospital, just two blocks away. A hospital spokeswoman said he was treated and released on Tuesday. Treloar lives on the 500 block of Orchard Avenue, near the accident scene.

A Coopersville man who escaped from an Ottawa County deputy's car and evaded police for three days earlier this summer pleaded guilty to all of the related charges on Monday in Ottawa County Circuit Court. Jordan Michael Mulder, 20, agreed to plead guilty in exchange for the Ottawa County prosecutor's office not file additional charges, according to court files. Sentencing was set for Aug. 19 at 9:30 a.m. Mulder remains in jail with bond set at $10,000 on each of the five charges.

Grand Haven City Council took its first steps Monday night toward hiring a director for the city's Department of Public Safety. Council approved an official recruitment profile that will be used to help search and select a new public safety director. City Manager Pat McGinnis said the next steps in the process involve figuring out where they want to post the job position and when it will be done.

With temperatures climbing into the low 90s and not much of a cooling breeze to speak of, the turf soccer field at Grand Haven High School was nearly unbearable to play on Monday. But dozens of young soccer players shrugged off the oppressive heat on the first day of the Lakeshore Premier Soccer Club camp, which will run all week. That means it's up to the players before hand, then the coaches during the event, to make sure that the heat doesn't lead to serious safety concerns.

West Michigan and the Tri-Cities area is in for a stretch of hot weather as temperatures are expected to float near 90 degrees for most of the week. Aaron Ofseyer, WZZM-TV meteorologist, said temperatures in the Tri-Cities for most of the week will run in the high 80s to low 90s with heat indexes near 100 degrees. "Not since 1988 have we seen this kind of heat (for this long),' he said.
