Grand Haven City Council members will consider the next steps toward finding a new director for the city's Department of Public Safety when they meet at 7:30 p.m. Monday at City Hall, 519 Washington Ave. Council will be asked to approve a recruitment profile for filling the vacant GHDPS position. Capt. Rick Yonker is serving as interim director. City officials said the profile will be used in the recruitment process, providing specific criteria for the final interview and appointment process of a new director.

The 16th annual Scott Flahive Memorial Cruise is set to take place Wednesday. The cruise starts at 7 p.m. and begins in the Driftwood Inn parking lot, 1305 S. Beacon Blvd. There will be goody bags and dash plaques for the first 150 cars.

Brenda Ritsema of Grand Haven is sure that God has been looking out after her and her husband, Larry. They both have had incidents to back that belief. Brenda Ritsema was injured in an automobile accident last February when her vehicle was broadsided by a motorist who ran a red light. She has recovered. Larry Ritsema survived a cardiac arrest incident on Memorial Day and is recovering.

The Woman's Club of Grand Haven is seeking donations for its 56th annual Scholarship Book Sale, which will be held in the Woman's Club tent during the Coast Guard Festival Craft Fair, Aug. 5-6. Clean, gently used books, CDs and DVDs may be dropped off at Rosy Mound Elementary School, 14016 Lakeshore Drive in Grand Haven Township, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Aug. 1-3 and from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Aug. 4. Textbooks and magazines will not be accepted. Proceeds from the sale will be used to fund scholarships for area residents.

No one was injured after two vehicles collided at the corner of Griffin Street and Robbins Road on Friday afternoon. According to Grand Haven Department of Public Safety Officer Joe Schulte, officers were dispatched to the scene at 2:30 p.m. after a 49-year-old Grand Haven man, who was driving south on Griffin and turning east onto Robbins Road, struck a vehicle driven by a 29-year-old Grand Haven woman. The woman was driving east on Robbins Road and turning onto northbound Griffin.

A 19-year-old Grand Haven man received non-life-threatening injuries Friday afternoon when he was hit by a car while riding his bicycle. The man, whose name was not released, was riding his bike on Taylor Avenue at about 3:50 p.m. Friday when he was struck by a vehicle turning onto Taylor off Kooiman Avenue, Grand Haven Department of Public Safety Officer Joseph Schulte said. Schulte said the bicyclist received minor injuries and was taken to North Ottawa Community Hospital for treatment.
