Meredith Andrews will open the 64th annual Worship on the Waterfront summer series on Sunday. She is a Dove Award-winning contemporary Christian music artist and worship leader. She has led many music conferences and retreats and can be heard on local Christian radio stations. First Reformed Church is sponsoring the free outdoor concert series that combines worship with music. "It's a very emotional medium, and the words and along with the music are sometimes as impactful as the spoken message,' said Carolyn Manting, publicity person for WOW.

A burning air conditioner in a Grand Haven home forced a family of four to evacuate Sunday afternoon, police said. Firefighters were called to 1127 Slayton Ave. shortly before 3:30 p.m. when a window air conditioner in the second story of the bungalow-style house caught fire, GHDPS officer Eric Rasch said. The blaze was quickly extinguished, and firefighters stayed to ventilate the house.

Eighty teams took turns crawling under nets, pulling dummies to safety, throwing life rings and answering water safety questions in an obstacle course aimed at informing participants in the 8th annual Beach Survival Challenge. The challenge drew what organizers said was an unprecedented turnout as more than 480 participants competed at Grand Haven State Park on Saturday.

Grand Haven Eagle Riders 925 will have a Christmas in July Toy Run on July 9. Registration is from 11 a.m. to noon, with the ride starting immediately after. There is a $5 donation fee. Sponsor stops are Fruitport Eagles, Red Rooster Restaurant, White Lake Eagles and back to Grand Haven Eagles. Upon the return, there will be a food and beer tent opening at 4 p.m. Admissaion into the tent will be a unwrapped gift minimum of $5 or a $5 donation. Food and drinks will be available for purchase. Quarter Below will provide entertainment from 6-10 p.m.

Residents and visitors to Grand Haven's harborfront are closer than ever to having a new splash pad to play in. It will be located near Chinook Pier and the Municipal Marina. "We hope to get the building going in the next few days,' Gernot Runschke of GMB Architecture said.
