The Muskegon-based Pet Pantry of Michigan will be hosting bingo in Grand Haven on Saturday to benefit the hungry animals in the community. The goal is to reach $1,000. The entry fee is $5 and each card is $1. Bring a pet food donation to receive a free bingo card (one free card per person). Doors at the Knights of Columbus Hall, 1416 Washington Ave., will open at 1:30 p.m. and game play will begin at 2 p.m. Play will continue until all prizes are won. A "green' roof set to be installed atop the Grand Haven Community Center will provide a new look to the facility. "Your typical roof is an unattractive feature,' LiveRoof LLC General Manager Dave MacKenzie said. "When you have a ‘green' roof, you have something that is beautiful.'

A water safety awareness event that began with 11 teams eight years ago has grown to 80 teams, and become one of the Tri-Cities' most recognizable beach events. The eighth annual Beach Survival Challenge is Saturday at the Grand Haven State Park. Registered teams are to check in from 8-9 a.m., with games beginning at 10 a.m. Awards for first, second and third place in each of the divisions will follow at around 4 p.m.

Stepping under a sign that read "On the Banks of LaGrande Riviere' transported visitors 300 years back in time. Harbor Island was transformed Saturday with military tents, wooden furniture, campfires and re-enactors dressed in period attire - all reflecting the 18th century-era of the Tri-Cities area. The 11th annual Feast of the Strawberry Moon drew thousands of visitors.

A celebration in downtown Grand Haven on Saturday afternoon marked the end of a multi-year reconstruction project that gave downtown Grand Haven a facelift. Residents, business owners, and representatives from local, state and federal government were on hand to celebrate the occasion and take part in a ribbon cutting ceremony. "The beauty of today was the community support we had - the number of individuals we had from this community,' Mayor Roger Bergman said. "It's a beautiful day in Grand Haven.'

The Grand Haven Planning Commission will be looking at updating the city's Master Plan in order to pave the way for the proposed Principal Shopping District in downtown Grand Haven. Regulations state that to establish a PSD, each municipality must have it written in a master plan that includes an urban design plan designating a PSD or the development of a PSD. "All of that language has to happen before the PSD can come to fruition,' City Planner Kristin Keery said.

In Shakespeare's own lifetime, it was illegal for women to perform on the professional stage in England. Shakespeare wrote his plays for all-male companies of actors, in which teenage boys played the women's roles. This summer, the Grand Haven-based Pigeon Creek Shakespeare Company will return to this tradition with an all-male cast production of Shakespeare's "Cymbeline.' This production will be directed by Bob Jones, who will travel to West Michigan from Virginia to direct the play.

The Grand Haven Area Arts Council will kick off its summer concert series next week with three concerts. Tuesdays in the Park will start June 14 with Don Middlebrook and Living Soul in Grand Haven Central Park from 7-8:30 p.m. Dance on the Waterfront will have its first night June 15 at the Waterfront Stadium with the Spring Lake Dance Band. Line Dancing Instruction begins at 6:30, followed by Ballroom Dancing from 7-8:30 p.m. The cost is $2.50 Sweet Lou and The Savages will launch Thursdays at the Point June 16 from 7-8:30 p.m. at Spring Lake at the Point.
