A 42-year-old Muskegon man has been arraigned on charges connected to an incident late Tuesday afternoon when he walked into the Grand Haven post office armed with two guns, said Capt. Rick Yonker of the Grand Haven Department of Public Safety.

Because funding for harbor dredging is becoming scarce, Grand Haven officials are making a push to get more funds for the project through the government's Harbor Maintenance Trust Fund. The city is one step closer to owning the two lighthouse structures on Grand Haven's south pier after action Monday night by City Council. Council unanimously approved language allowing the city to accept a quitclaim deed for the two lighthouse structures.

Customers in line at the Grand Haven post office were ushered into the back of the building while police arrested a gunman there late Tuesday afternoon, said Postmaster Barb Kiehborth. "I heard the cop yelling at the guy to drop to the floor and that's when I went out there,' Kiehborth said.
