Visitors to Grand Haven's beach may soon have an easier way of getting to and from the summer hot spot. Grand Haven officials are looking to implement a Harbor Transit beach route to alleviate congestion and parking problems near Lake Michigan and the City Beach.

Grand Haven's community art project has gone to the dogs. Officials from the city's Main Street Downtown Development Authority have chosen a caricature dog as its community art project for 2012, called Grand Haven arf Walk.

A Muskegon man charged with carrying a gun into the Grand Haven post office earlier this year is scheduled to be sentenced Monday in Ottawa County Circuit Court. George Covington III, 42, was charged with being a felon in possession of a firearm after the Jan. 3 incident.

Grand Haven's administration presented an overall balanced budget during a special work session Tuesday night at the City Hall Annex. Mayor Geri McCaleb said she was pleased with the budget and the process, and thought city officials were being good stewards with residents' tax dollars.

A second shipwreck recently discovered off Grand Haven's shore is believed to be the deepest schooner ever found in Lake Michigan. Divers with the Michigan Shipwreck Research Association discovered a 90-foot schooner believed to be the St. Peter - a ship that reported taking on water near Milwaukee in 1874.
