Three candidates are vying for two seats on Grand Haven's Board of Light & Power in next week's election. Gerry Witherell, 74, 527 Butler St., has been serving as a BLP director since he being appointed to the board in 2005. Witherell said he believed it was important to continue the same standard of service the BLP currently provides to customers in the Tri-Cities area - as it benefits not only residents, but large businesses as well. "If there is a problem, our people are out there in a matter of minutes,' he said.

Grand Haven voters will be deciding the city's new leader on Nov. 8. Geri McCaleb, 65, and write-in candidate Ken Sharkey, 52, are running to fill the seat that is being opened up by the departure of current Mayor Roger Bergman. The term for mayor is two years. McCaleb, 1235 Slayton Ave., served for eight years on Grand Haven City Council. She also served as secretary and president of the Grand Haven Eastown Association.

Jane Gould said she still misses her mother, who died 10 years ago; and her father, who died in 2005. But the Grand Haven woman said the annual memorial service conducted by Hospice of North Ottawa Community is helping her through the grieving process.
