There was some feeling before Tuesday - especially among the Spring Lake faithful - that this might have been the perfect opportunity for the Lakers to end their losing streak to neighboring rival Grand Haven. In the four years since the non-conference rivalry renewed after a lengthy hiatus, the Buccaneers have gone 4-0, with each win coming by double figures.

Sean Steffel caught a pass in the corner, squared up and calmly swished a 3-pointer directly in front of the jam-packed Spring Lake student section. The shot was a big one for the host Buccaneers - it put the home team on top 27-18, quieting a Lakers' run. But it was an even bigger shot for Steffel, who attended Spring Lake through his freshman season and played with many of the current Lakers for years.

Coast Guard City USA received an early present from Santa on Tuesday - a new 41-foot Coast Guard utility boat to place at the city's entrance at U.S. 31 and Seventh Street. "Christmas has officially arrived in Grand Haven now that the Coast Guard boat, the new one, has arrived,' Coast Guard Festival Executive Director Mike Smith said.
