No one was injured when a Park Township woman crashed her vehicle into the front of a Holland-area restaurant Friday afternoon, police said. Witnesses told police that Mary Jillson, 75, was attempting to back out of a parking space in the lot at Zoup!, 3435 W. Shore Drive, but instead drove forward. Police and firefighters responded to the restaurant shortly after 2 p.m. to find that Jillson, whose vehicle was about halfway through the front entrance area of the building, was trapped in her vehicle, police said.

A medical issue is believed to be the cause of a crash that sent a 38-year-old Holland Township man to the hospital Wednesday afternoon, police said. Police responded to the accident on 120th Avenue, south of Riley Street, at 3:48 p.m., said Ottawa County Sheriff's Sgt. Brent Converse. Investigators said Eric Cook had been driving south on 120th Avenue when he had a medical issue and lost control of his 2000 Chevy Malibu. The car crossed over the center line and went off the east side of the road, and then hit and broke off a tree, causing the car to flip.

A 24-year-old Holland man is in custody after fleeing the scene of an accident early this morning, police said. An Ottawa County Sheriff's patrol car came upon a car that had crashed into a utility pole on Butternut Drive north of James Street shortly after 3 a.m., Ottawa County Sheriff's Sgt. Keith Garvelink said. As the deputy approached the scene, he saw two people run away from the car. The driver was found later near 136th Avenue and James Street with the help of a K-9 unit. He was taken into custody. His passenger, who also fled, was not found, Garvelink said.

Three Zeeland men were hospitalized after their sport utility vehicle went under a semitrailer at a Holland Township intersection on Monday, police said. Police said the accident happened shortly after 6:15 p.m. when Amrit Mundy, 23, of Brampton, Ontario, Canada, drove his semitrailer truck through a red light on southbound U.S. 31 at Quincy Street. Sgt. Brian Buter of the Ottawa County Sheriff's Department said the empty semitrailer was struck by a 2006 Mitsubishi Endeavor being driven east through the intersection by 67-year-old Ron Sisouphone of Zeeland.

Ottawa County deputies said three men survived being run over by a semitrailer truck in a crash that closed U.S. 31 for nearly two hours on Monday evening. The accident happened around 6:15 p.m. on southbound U.S. 31 in Holland Township.

Investigators have determined that a fire that broke out in a Holland Township mobile home early Tuesday and killed a toddler was not caused by foul play. Trenton Harlen, 1, died in the fire that destroyed his family's mobile home in the Leisure Estates Mobile Home Park on Butternut Avenue. It reportedly broke out at around 2 a.m.

The investigation is continuing into a fatal mobile home fire which killed 14-month-old Trenton Harlen early Tuesday morning, said Lt. Steve Kempker of the Ottawa County Sheriff's Department. Investigators from the Sheriff's Department and the State Fire Marshall's Office were on the scene Tuesday, looking into the cause of the fire, Kempker said. In the meantime, the Ottawa County medical examiner reported that the toddler died as a result of smoke inhalation, Kempker said.

The father of a 1-year-old boy killed Tuesday in a fire that destroyed the family's mobile home in Holland Township was out of town checking on the well-being of his other children in tornado-ravaged Joplin, Mo. Firefighters were called to Leisure Estates in Holland Township about 2 a.m. Trenton Harlen died of smoke inhalation.

A toddler has died and his sister is in serious condition as the result of an overnight fire at their home in the Leisure Estates Mobile Home Park. Fire broke out inside the Butternut Avenue home about 1:48 a.m., said Lt. Steve Kempker of the Ottawa County Sheriff's Department. Witnesses said they heard an explosion, then saw 3-foot flames shooting out of the home, according to a WZZM-TV report. The mobile home was fully involved in fire when police and firefighters arrived, Kempker said.
