The Hope College Concert Series will feature Brooke Waggoner at 8 p.m. Monday, Oct. 17, at the Knickerbocker Theatre in downtown Holland. Waggoner will headline with a full band, featuring an assortment of instruments including violin and cello. She will play selections from various albums - including her most recent offering, "Go Easy Little Doves.' Both the album and its predecessor, "Heal for the Honey,' debuted at No. 1 on the iTunes singer/songwriter charts.

The airport serving the Michigan city known for its annual Tulip Time Festival is shedding its floral name. The Holland Sentinel reported the governing board for what was known as Tulip City Airport in Holland on Monday approved the change to West Michigan Regional Airport. The board made the new name effective immediately, but the Federal Aviation Administration also needs to make the change official.

Even after more than 40 years on the Hope College art faculty, Bruce McCombs finds new ways to see the campus - not only the latest additions, but familiar landmarks as well. McCombs' perspective will be shared in "Hope College Architecture: An Exhibition of Watercolors,' which will open in the gallery of the college's De Pree Art Center on Friday, Oct. 14.

The Hope College Great Performance Series will present the Enso String Quartet at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 13, in Dimnent Memorial Chapel. Recognition of the award-winning young ensemble has included a 2010 Grammy nomination for Best Chamber Music Performance. Shortly after the group's inception at Yale University in 1999, Enso had success at the Banff International String Quartet Competition and won the Concert Artists Guild International Competition, and the quartet has consistently received high praise for performances ever since.

Police said the pilot of a single-engine plane was killed when his aircraft crashed near the runway at Tulip City Airport on Thursday night. The crash happened on the northeast end of the airport around 6:45 p.m. Police have not released the name of the pilot, as they were still trying to notify his family members. The Holland Sentinel reported on its website that the pilot was a 60-year-old Gobles man who was practicing "touch-and-go landings' at the Holland airport; and he was the only occupant of the experimental, home-built plane.
