Welcome to the new online Tribune!

“We’re very excited about the launch of our new website,” Tribune Publisher Kevin Hook said. “The news and information business is evolving — and, in order to remain relevant in our community, we need to evolve as well. We’re very fortunate to work for a company that understands that and is willing to provide the resources to help us do so.”

Tribune Web/IT Manager Don Rogers said the launch will take place throughout the day. You may have to change or update your browser bookmarks to www.grandhaventribune.com only, removing anything after .com.

The new website, he said, will be a lot faster than the Tribune’s current website, will have less down time, and there will also be a cleaner user interface that allows for more interaction.

Readers will also find that website content will be updated throughout the day, as opposed to once in the late morning.

“There will be more of a reason to come back all of the time,” Rogers said.

A feature of the new site is the ability for readers to post comments on stories.

The visual presentation will also be enhanced, with the addition of photo galleries that can highlight stories and events in the community.

“There’s going to be a lot more photos than in the past,” Rogers said.

Rogers said videos will also play a more prominent role on the site, as they will be embedded in stories. There will also be a separate page to look at an archive of previous videos.

The new site will also have links to a couple of related sites: photo site Squink, auction site Boocoo and the Tribune Real Estate Guide.

It will feature the return of weather information and classifieds that are easier to search, as well as the popular HarborCam.

Future plans call for an e-edition, in which a subscriber can download the day’s complete Tribune for a fee.

“We are committed to working hard and staying informed on the latest technology to provide our readers with a pleasant experience,” Hook said. “As we move through this process, I encourage people to share with us your feedback so we can improve. After all, satisfying our customers is what it’s all about.”

I do not like this new site at all.. it is really too overdone.. What was wrong with the old site?I found it a lot easier to navigate through to gain info. This really sucks.

TOMSTOYB

Go back to the old format. It was more user friendly.

TOMSTOYB,

Thanks for your comments. We had to upgrade our site as the old one had become antiquated, The old site was slow and often crashed, We hope that you will become comfortable with the new one as time goes on.

Keep up the good work Tribune. The new site is far more friendly than the old. People generally do not like change, but I believe this one you have made is very beneficial and well thought out. Wish WZZM would have used you when they did their site renovation, talk about a mess !

My compliments !!!!

GHmom

I agree with hgfase and think the new site is great. You did a fabulous job and think this site is very user friendly and the format is easy to follow.

Looks a little "plain" compared to the old site. Ability for reader participation is a plus. But a step backwards as far as the obits: no photos!

The new site no longer appears on my Google homepage, nor does there appear to be any RSS feed. This makes it almost useless from my perspective. I've tried updating it, but Google cannot find your site. Pity. As a former resident I loved being able to follow the local news.

To SPC:

I just did a search in Google for Grand Haven newspaper and the Tribune shows up as the first result. What do you mean exactly that it no longer shows up in your Google? Maybe you have to go and setup the link again. It's possible the old URL no longer works. When they switched to the new site I had to update my bookmark for the Trib. Probably the same thing for your RSS feed, check the URL for that as well.
