2 in custody after armed robbery in Robinson Twp.

Two Holton-area men are in custody after allegedly committing an armed robbery at a Robinson Township party store Tuesday afternoon. Ottawa County Sheriff's deputies were called to Oaklea Party Store, 10398 N. Cedar Drive, at 3:10 p.m. after a masked man entered the store holding a gun and took money from the cash register, Lt. Mark Bennett said. A shot was fired outside the store during the robbery, but no one was injured, he said.

A store employee provided a description of the suspect and his getaway vehicle, described as a green minivan or sport utility vehicle, Bennett said. A plain-clothes detective en route to the robbery noticed a vehicle matching this description heading south on 104th Avenue, just north of Lakeshore Drive.

The detective, along with a uniformed deputy, took two men who were in the van into custody without incident within an hour of the robbery, Bennett said. The suspects were taken in for questioning and cooperated with police, he added.

A weapon and money from the store were recovered, Bennett said. The items were not in the vehicle — but their location cannot be disclosed, as the investigation is ongoing, Bennett said.
