Accused robbers waive Circuit Court exam

Two Holton men charged in connection with an armed robbery of the Oaklea Party Store in Robinson Township last month waived examination prior to arraignment in Ottawa County Circuit Court on Monday. A jury trial has been set for July 14 at 9 a.m. Eslick was charged with one count of armed robbery and one count of felony firearms in the afternoon incident at the store, 10398 N. Cedar Drive. Eslick’s prior offenses in Ottawa County include domestic violence and probation violation.

Scott Lee Richardson, 26, 8163 Holton Road, waived exam on Friday and no other court dates were set as of Wednesday.

Ottawa County Sheriff’s deputies were called to the Oaklea Party Store at 3:10 p.m. on April 19 after a masked man entered the store holding a gun and took money from the cash register, said Lt. Mark Bennett. A store employee provided police with a description of the suspects’ vehicle, which was pulled over on 104th Avenue, north of Lake Michigan Drive, by a detective responding to the scene.

The two men were arrested without incident within an hour of the robbery, Bennett said.

A weapon and money from the store were recovered, although they were not in the vehicle. Bennett said where those items were found could not be disclosed due to the ongoing investigation.
