Humane society’s thrift store to mark 6th year

Shelby's Place, the Harbor Humane Society's thrift store, is celebrating its sixth anniversary on Friday and Saturday, from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. both days. Shelby's Place is located near Westshore Mall at 12360 Felch St. in Holland Township, next to the Hobby Lobby store. Shelby's Place offers housewares, clothing, books, electronics and more; and all proceeds benefit the Harbor Humane Society in West Olive.

During the two-day celebration, all customers will pick their own discount, ranging from 10 to 50 percent off their total purchase. Refreshments will be provided.

On-site micro-chipping will be offered for $10 per pet from noon to 4 p.m. Saturday, May 21.

Shelby’s Place is named after a 5-year-old Rottweiler mix who suffered burns to her ears, nose and around her eyes after being set on fire in April 2003. Due to her intense medical needs, she received treatment at Harbor Humane Society nearly two years until she died in September 2004. Shelby symbolized all animals who suffer at the hands of thoughtless human beings, Harbor Humane Society officials said.
