Former Boy Scout leader convicted on 3 child porn charges

A Twin Lake man is facing prison after his conviction Thursday on three counts of attempting to produce child pornography. U.S. Attorney Donald Davis announced the three-count conviction of Scott Herrick, 39, in U.S. District Court in Kalamazoo on Thursday. Herrick took cell-phone video of boys as they were dressing in the boys locker room at the Muskegon Family YMCA. At the time, Herrick was working as a pool safety instructor at that YMCA.

FBI agents arrested Herrick last year while he was working as director of the Gerber Boy Scout Camp in Muskegon County. Agents working an undercover operation discovered Herrick was trading child pornography, then searched his Boy Scout camp premises and computers.

Herrick had pleaded guilty to charges of distributing and possessing child pornography when his trial began in March.

A sentencing date for Herrick has not been set. He could face a maximum of 140 years in prison, a life-time term of supervised released and fines totaling $1.5 million.
