Holland Chorale to hold auditions May 31

Following a 51st season that included a stint at Carnegie Hall, the Holland Chorale is readying for its 52nd season and the possibility of welcoming new members to the group. Auditions by appointment are planned for the evening of May 31 at Holland Area Arts Council, 150 E. Eighth St. "Singing with the Holland Chorale has been a wonderful way to continue singing, polishing and performing an ambitious repertoire which one typically leaves behind after college,' member Timothy Pennings said. "It's an amazing group of musicians.'

The main commitments for those interested in auditioning are Thursday night rehearsals and the new season’s four subscription concerts.

The season kicks off Oct. 22 with “Expressions of the Soul,” a show celebrating music of Dutch heritage and composers, as well as music of peace. Dec. 10 brings the “Holiday Concert” with the Holland Symphony Orchestra. Other concerts are scheduled for next year on Feb. 18 and April 28.

Chorale Artistic Director Ryan Kelly encourages those who may think the ambitious repertoire to be beyond their reach to reconsider.

“Pedigree is much less important than passion,” Kelly said. “We look for singers who are passionate about singing, who are committed to pursuing artistic excellence and who believe that great music changes lives.”

For more information, or to schedule an audition, call Chorale Manager Julia Johnson at 616-494-0256 or e-mail julia@hollandchorale.org.
