Man escapes from police car by kicking out window

Police are looking for a 20-year-old Coopersville man who broke out of a police car Sunday while being transported to the Ottawa County Jail, said Lt. Mark Bennett of the Ottawa County Sheriff's Department. Jordan Michael Mulder was being transported to the jail at the corner of 120th Avenue and Fillmore Street early Sunday morning when he kicked out a window, was able to get out of the police car and fled, Bennett said. Sheriff's deputies gave chase, but were unable to locate him, Bennett said.

Mulder was believed to have stolen a 1996 Buick Skylark from the area. The license plate number is BNR 3402, Bennett said.

Mulder was being taken to jail for a parole violation. He was handcuffed at the time, deputies said.

The suspect is described as a white male, 5 feet 9 inches tall, weighs 150 pounds, and has brown hair and blue eyes. Bennett said Mulder has a large tattoo on his left shoulder with the words “cry later” in the design.

Mulder faces possible felony charges of malicious destruction of police property, escape from custody and vehicle theft.
