Health Dept. to host lyme disease talk

Ottawa County Parks is hosting a talk by Dr. Paul Heidel from the Ottawa County Health Department on ticks and lyme disease. The program is Wednesday, June 22, at 7 p.m., and will be held at the Nature Education Center at Hemlock Crossing in Port Sheldon Township. Ticks have become more common in Ottawa County in recent years and studies have shown that some area ticks are carriers of lyme disease, Heidel said. Ticks are found in many outdoor areas, including vegetation near beaches.
