GH to host weekend full of events

The first full weekend of summer in Grand Haven will be filled with activities, according to Courtney Olson, Chamber of Commerce Grand Haven-Spring Lake-Ferrysburg program and events support coordinator. The events start Saturday morning with the Farmers Market from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. and then the Sunday Art Market on Sunday from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Both markets are located at Harbor and First Street under the green canopy.

Downtown Grand Haven and Washington Avenue will also be filled with activity on Saturday and Sunday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. during the 50th annual Downtown Grand Haven Art Festival, promoted by Howard Alan Events.

In conjunction with the art show, Family Fun Day on Saturday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. creates a space for all to design, create, and have fun using their artistic abilities.

On Sunday at 1 p.m., Celebration of the Arts will take place on the deck above the Riverview Shops next to Snug Harbor. During the event, the name of the wind sculpture built by Mike Westra will be revealed, and following the program. Free refreshments will be provided.

Outside of the downtown activity, sand artists will be taking to the beach for the 30th annual Sand Sculpture Contest. Registration for this event is at 9 a.m., with sculpting beginning at 10 a.m., and judging at noon.
