Crash claims life of a Marine from West Michigan

A 22-year-old Marine who recently returned from Afghanistan was killed after losing control of his car and striking a tree in Allegan County. Police told WOOD-TV that Gregory Courtney's Chevy Camaro was traveling about 120 mph just before the 5 a.m. Friday crash in Trowbridge Township. The Kalamazoo Gazette reported that alcohol also is believed to be a factor in the crash, about 30 miles southwest of Grand Rapids. Courtney was thrown from the car, which crashed less than a half-mile from his father's home.
