Western Michigan Christian also competed at the event, reaching the finals before falling to Grant, 25-11, 18-25, 15-13.
The Warriors scored wins over Reeths-Puffer and Zeeland West in pool play sandwiched around a loss to Grant. WMC edged Zeeland East in the quarterfinals, then beat Reeths-Puffer again in the semifinals.
Rachel Bruinsma had a tremendous day for the Warriors as she finished with 72 kills, 36 digs and eight blocks.
Grand Haven’s varsity volleyball team lost in the semifinals of the Silver Bracket at East Kentwood’s Diggin for the Cure tournament.
The Buccaneers struggled in pool play, scoring wins over Caledonia and West Ottawa while losing to Forest Hills Northern and Traverse City West.
The Bucs bounced back to beat Forest Hills Central in the quarterfinals before losing to Livonia Ladywood in the semifinals, 23-25, 30-28, 21-19.
“We had a slow start in the morning, but we were able to regroup and play pretty well to finish out the day,” Bucs’ coach Katy Walters said. “This was a step in the right direction.”
Abby Cole paced the Bucs’ offense with 58 kills. She also had five aces and was tremendous defensively at the net with 25 blocks.
