Airport serving Holland area sheds Tulip City name

The airport serving the Michigan city known for its annual Tulip Time Festival is shedding its floral name. The Holland Sentinel reported the governing board for what was known as Tulip City Airport in Holland on Monday approved the change to West Michigan Regional Airport. The board made the new name effective immediately, but the Federal Aviation Administration also needs to make the change official.

Holland Mayor Kurt Dykstra, a West Michigan Airport Authority board member, brought a committee’s name suggestion and proposed logo before the board. The idea to change the name of the airport has been discussed for several years.

Plans are in the works for a new $7 million terminal at the airport.
