Craig Feenstra told WZZM-TV that “something black ran from” his left and was hit by his truck about 8 p.m. Saturday on Interstate 96 in Grand Rapids. The bear ran south after being hit, but later died.
WOOD-TV reported that a bear was spotted earlier in the day eating from a trash can. Police issued an alert and a local high school soccer game was delayed as officers looked for the bear.
The Michigan Department of Natural Resources estimates the bear was 2 years old and weighed about 150 pounds.
No one was injured by the bear.
