Driver dies after hitting deer, striking tree

Police said a driver in Kent County has died after hitting a deer, losing control of the vehicle and striking a tree early today.

WOOD-TV and WZZM-TV reported the crash happened in Algoma Township, near Grand Rapids. The roadway was closed for several hours following the crash.

The man was identified as 48-year-old Randall Thomas of Solon Township.

The crash was under investigation.
