Volleyball: Bucs, Trojans open regional play tonight

Grand Haven will be looking to earn its first-ever regional volleyball championship while Fruitport tries to continue its quest to repeat as state champions as regional tournament action begins tonight.

The Buccaneers will compete in the Class A regional tournament at Jenison. Coach Katy Walters’ team takes on Traverse City West tonight at 5:30 p.m. The second half of the bracket features No. 2-ranked Rockford against Hudsonville at 7 p.m.

The Rams were the champions in the O-K Red Conference.

The winners face off for the regional title on Thursday at 7 p.m. at Jenison.

Fruitport travels to Stanton tonight to compete in the Class B regional tournament at Central Montcalm High School.

The Trojans, ranked No. 2 in the state, meets Saginaw Swan Valley tonight at 6 p.m. Game 2 features Grant and Belding at 7:30 p.m., with the winners facing off on Thursday at 8 p.m.
