2 dead, 1 injured in crash on slushy road

Police said two people are dead following a head-on collision on a slippery, slush-covered highway in Michigan's Upper Peninsula.

Michigan State Police said in a statement that Blanche Johnson died along with her passenger Virginia Schmitt after the vehicle in which they were riding in lost control Wednesday, crossed the centerline and collided with another vehicle on U.S. 2 in Delta County.

Police said Johnson and Schmitt were from Rapid River.

Police said the driver of the other vehicle was Michael Manderfield of Kaukauna, Wis. Police said he was taken to a hospital for treatment.

The crash was under investigation.
