Police were called to the westbound lanes near the Adams Street exit in Holland Township when a car went into the path of the semi and was struck the truck. The semi overturned into a ditch.

Converse said it was fortunate that nobody was injured in the accident, but that people needed to be more careful driving in adverse weather conditions.

The sergeant said Douglas Campbell, 50, of Northville, was westbound in the left lane of I-196 about 9:55 a.m. He was passing the semi in his Pontiac GTO when he lost control on the wet road, crossed over in front of the semi and struck the guardrail. This caused him to bounce back into the path of the semi, Converse said.

Truck driver Robert Ferguson, 80, of St. Joseph, tried to avoid a crash, Converse said. However, his truck hit the car, then went into the ditch.
