Emergency personnel were called to the northbound lanes of the highway following the 2 p.m. accident. Traffic was stopped for a short period of time at VanWagoner Road; then one lane of traffic was allowed through until the highway was opened up more than an hour after the crash.
Cynthia Soyars was driving her 2003 Chevrolet Trailblazer north on U.S. 31 when she said she took off her seat belt to push her dog back, said Sgt. Steve Austin of the Ottawa County Sheriff’s Department. She looked back up, saw a slower vehicle in front of her, switched lanes abruptly, lost control and hit the guard rail.
Soyars was taken by a North Ottawa Community Hospital ambulance to Hackley Hospital in Muskegon. A hospital spokesperson said Soyars was treated for her injuries and released.
Spring Lake/Ferrysburg police and Spring Lake Township firefighters assisted at the scene.
