The Trojans clung to a six-point lead entering the fourth quarter and could never put the Vikings away, eventually holding on for a 46-42 victory. The win keeps Fruitport in first-place in the Lakes Eight Conference at 2-0.
Trojans’ senior point guard Lauren Hazekamp had another strong performance with 17 points and six steals. Senior center Rachael Folkmier also came up big, recording a double-double with 13 points and 15 rebounds.
Mallory Vest and Amber Carmean each added seven points for the Trojans.
Alexis FIrovich paced Tri-County with 14 points.
FRUITPORT TURNS AWAY TRI-COUNTY
A 13-0 run by host Fruitport propelled the Trojans (2-0) to a 64-52 victory in their Lakes Eight opener against Tri- County on Friday.
Fruitport connected on 12-of-15 from the free throw line to ice the win.
Senior Mike Reyes led the Trojans with 16 points and 12 rebounds. Tyler Fehler hit 10-of-11 from the charity stripe and added 12 points. Fehler also dished off five assists. Nico Cernigla scored 12 points for Fruitport.
Devin Longoria led Tri-County (0-1) with 19 points.
