Officer Sara Petrucha had stopped a vehicle on Seaway Drive near Seminole Road for a traffic violation shortly before 7 p.m. Thursday. Her patrol car’s emergency lights were activated.

After the third car hit the two vehicles, it continued north on Seaway Drive. No one was injured in the crash, police said.

A witness and Detective Sgt. Bruce Morningstar of the Fruitport Township Police followed the vehicle, which eventually stopped in a parking lot in Muskegon. Muskegon Police Officer Chad VanDam detained the suspect.

The suspect, a 49-year-old Norton Shores man, was later arrested and lodged for third-offense operating while intoxicated, leaving the scene of a property damage accident, failing to yield to an emergency vehicle, transporting an open container of alcohol, and operating while license revoked.

The suspect’s name is being held until after his arraignment on the charges.
