Welch, 33, started Thursday at the Grand Haven Tribune and Lighthouse Media as the new director of content and audience development.

She’s in charge of the content of the Grand Haven Tribune and grandhaventribune.com, and will be leading a team of talented journalists as Lighthouse Media seeks to serve up excellent products to the Tri-Cities area.

“My mission will be to engage the community with content that has impact and a team that has vision,” Welch said after her first full day on the job. “I’m really excited about the opportunities we have to transform this newspaper into an award-winning media company with unlimited potential.”

Welch grew up among the cornfields of central Ohio and embarked on her journalism career as a news reporter in 2000 at her hometown newspaper in Marion.

Sometimes the best place to start a journalism career is for a small newspaper. It really gives you what you need to get into the business and figure out what the people really want to read.

When a news website hires someone who has written for casino newpapers they are really doing their business a great service and will be successful.
