Albro, the winningest coach in Aquinas College men’s basketball history, and a former assistant with the Michigan State women’s basketball team, is currently guiding the Grand Rapids Northview girls squad.
He left his assistant job at MSU in July 2010 to become the athletic director and head varsity girls coach at Northview.
Albro has worked his magic with the Wildcats this winter, turning around a team that finished just 9-11 last season to a squad that is currently 16-7 and one step away from a regional championship. Of course, standing in the way of Northview will be Kowalczyk-Fulmer’s Bucs, who are 23-1 and ranked No. 1 in Class A. The two schools meet tonight at Rockford High School, with the opening tip set for 7 p.m.
“I’ve known him forever,” Kowalczyk-Fulmer said. “I used to work with him for about 10 years at his “Camp of Champions,” and he was at MSU, where he coached the low post for three years. Then of course he had had a lot of success at Aquinas, too.
“In between his coaching jobs, he’s come to help us out from time-to-time. I’ve always appreciated that.”
