The Rams advanced to the regional final with Tuesday’s 49-42 victory over O-K Red Conference foe Hudsonville.

The Rams-Eagles game was originally scheduled to be played Monday, but was pushed to Tuesday because of tornado watches and warnings in the Grand Rapids area Monday evening.

With the semifinal game moved to Tuesday, there was talk of bumping the regional title game to Thursday, but the MHSAA refused to switch the date, forcing the Rams to play on back-to-back nights.

Grand Haven lost to Rockford at home on Jan. 10, 46-31, then bounced back to defeat the Rams at Rockford on Feb. 7, 43-41.

The Buccaneers found themselves mired in a slump over the final three weeks of the regular season, but have caught fire in state tournament play, winning three consecutive games in the district tournament before shocking a one-loss Petoskey team in Monday’s regional semifinals.

The Bucs and the Rams met in back-to-back memorable regional title games in 2009 and 2010.

In ‘09, the Rams’ Gabe VanderJagt knocked down a long 3-pointer in the closing moments to stun the Buccaneers.

In ‘10, the Bucs’ Nate VanArendonk shattered the glass backboard at Grandville High School, propelling Grand Haven to a regional title.
