The 65-year-old on Wednesday announced he was a candidate for the Ottawa County Board of Commissioners in District 10 — which covers Grand Haven’s precincts 1, 2 and 4; Grand Haven Township precinct 4; Spring Lake village and township; and Ferrysburg.
“For a long time, I’ve thought that I’d enjoy representing Northwest Ottawa County in county government,” Bergman said.
Bergman did not seek re-election during the last city election in 2011. He served on City Council for 12 years, the last eight as mayor.
Bergman said he felt that now was a good time to begin representing people of Northwest Ottawa County.
“I’ve held off because I felt there was good representation from Jane Ruiter and Denny Swartout,” he said.
According to Bergman, both Ruiter and Swartout are not running for re-election to their county board seats this year.

I got no problem with that. He has the track record to start with. All I can say is good luck. -
