Doubles teams lead SL tennis to state finals

Spring Lake's varsity tennis team missed out on qualifying for the Division 3 state finals last season by a mere two points.

The Lakers made sure they didn’t experience the same kind of heartbreak this time around.

Spring Lake’s doubles teams excelled at the event held Friday at Spring Lake High School, with the Lakers winning two flights and taking runner-up honors in two others to clinch a spot at the finals at Holly and Fenton High Schools on June 1-2.

Cadillac was crowned regional champions with 28 points, aided by the Vikings winning five flight championships at the meet. Spring Lake totaled 22 points, while Petoskey also punched a ticket to the finals by placing third with 19 points.
