Fruitport Township Police arrested the suspect, who they said would be charged with driving while license suspended and obstruction of justice (providing false identifying information to police to avoid arrest).

Police said they are awaiting toxicology results of a blood test to determine whether alcohol or drugs were a factor in the incident.

The suspect's name was not released.

Police said they responded to a crash on westbound I-96 in Fruitport Township at around 3 p.m. Tuesday. The crash took place following multiple calls to Muskegon County Central Dispatch regarding a vehicle traveling east in the westbound lanes. Initial calls indicated the wrong-way driver was near I-96 and Sternberg Road. The eastbound vehicle and a westbound vehicle collided near Airline Road.

Both vehicles were occupied by only the drivers. Both drivers were injured in the crash and transported to local hospitals by ProMed Ambulance to be treated for what are believed to be non-life-threatening injuries.
