The suspects, ages 23 and 24, were expected to be arraigned Wednesday in Ottawa County District Court, said Lt. Mark Bennett of the Ottawa County Sheriff’s Department.
Police said they don't believe these men were involved in a recent rash of home invasions in the area, partially because two of those incidents occurred after the men were already in custody, Bennett said.
The two suspects were observed near an unoccupied home in the 200 block of Luce Street in the far eastern part of Ottawa County about 1:30 p.m. Tuesday, Bennett said.
The contractor told police he knew the homeowner and knew that the men didn’t belong there. The contractor told the men to leave, but they returned later and attempted to gain entry, Bennett said. The contractor called 911 and deputies arrived in time to make the arrests.
The two men had been drinking, Bennett added.
