Dryer, Kelley post victories in Double Handed distance race

Fantastic conditions greeted the Grand River Sailing Club boats participating in Saturday's Double Handed Distance Race.

The event, an 11-mile race that heads south of the Grand Haven pier heads for 5 1/2 miles before turning back north, drew just five boats, with Denny Dryer and Jack Kelley taking home victories.

Dryer guided Frank Lloyd Starboard to a first-place finish in the Spinnaker Fleet Race with an elapsed time of 2 hours, 12 minutes, 4 seconds and a corrected time of 1:45.51. Second was Tom Morell in Surface Tension with a corrected itme of 1:47.46.

Kelley’s CC Rider outran the field to win the Jib and Main Fleet with an elapsed time of 2:26.34 and a corrected time of 1:55.13. He finished just 16 seconds ahead of Mac McClellan’s JetStar, which had an elapsed time of 2:19.25 and a corrected time of 1:55.29.

Ross Carter’s Far Niente was third with a corrected time of 2:10.30.
