"I've heard of this kind of 'Girls Gone Wild' party on the water somewhere off Spring Lake," Freddie wrote. "They call it Hanky Panky Bayou. I've even seen some photos from it, and it doesn't look all that wild, but they do look like they're having fun. So where is this place?"
It's called Hanky Pank Bayou, but it's official name is Stahl's Bayou. Part of it is in Ottawa County's Spring Lake Township and the northern half is in Muskegon County's Fruitport Township. The bayou stretches north-northwest off the northern end of Spring Lake, just a mile or so west of the Village of Fruitport.
Coordinates: 43°7'4"N 86°10'48"W (see the Google map above).
There's even an "official" website: www.hankypank.com. You'll see lots of photos from summer weekends. Seems the boaters there are a pretty thirsty bunch.
Smith's Bayou was in the news earlier this week when some were complaining about the noise and boat traffic there. That's much farther south and is actually in the city of Ferrysburg. It stretches northwest and then north off the southern part of Spring Lake.
