McGinnis has worked as Grand Haven city manager since August 2003. He was reviewed by council during a closed session Monday night.

Mayor Geri McCaleb, who was elected to the post in November 2011, said McGinnis' annual job performance review was very positive.

“We really appreciate what Pat has been doing,” she said.

McGinnis said he agreed with council that there is always room for improvement. He said he will be working to improve communication among city staff and the public. He also highlighted the importance of keeping the city’s budget in line.

McGinnis said he was fortunate to work for a community where even the most heated of debates remains civil. Highlighting a disagreement at Monday’s City Council meeting over proposed lettering on Dewey Hill during the Coast Guard Festival, McGinnis said everyone was able to keep the mood light.

In addition, Sam Janson was promoted from assistant to the city manager to assistant city manager, effective this week. Janson began working in the city manager's office three years ago as an intern.

McGinnis said Janson will now begin working with other departments on his own. He will receive a pay increase, from $49,247 to $54,109 a year, which includes a 2.7 percent cost-of-living raise city employees received this year.

Janson said his new duties include working with information technology, risk management and grant management.

“Grand Haven is the best place to work and to raise my family,” he said.

Pat McGinnis seems to be a nice, friendly person with good intentions for Grand Haven. It's nice to read positive things about those who are working so hard to make our city a great place to live.
I might add that Gerry McCaleb is such a positive person, and she seems to promote unity among the city staff while offering encouragement and acknowledging the positive efforts of those involved in running our city. She brings out the better qualities in people instead of trying to push herself to the top and make herself noticed above others. She's a true leader and I'm very glad she is mayor for Grand Haven. Congratulations, Mr. McGinnis, on this article of acknowledgement for your continued effort to strive for excellence in the role you play as GH City Manager.

So.. we are still waiting for a answers from McGinnis on how much it has cost the tax payers for the firing of Public Safety Director Dennis Edwards or the screwed up business deal at Jackson and US-31 how much this costing the tax payers... Just wait people he has not even dealt with the retirement issues with the employees yet... or cutting the fat out and waste out of the public safety's budget by cutting the several take home cars for the people that live out of the area...
