after being involved in a hit-and-run incident near Battle Creek.

Roger Rose was riding his bicycle along Michigan Avenue when he was hit behind by a car at about 6 a.m. Wednesday, said Emmett Township public safety officers. The driver of the car continued driving, and was later arrested at a residence in Kalamazoo.

Rose currently lives in Battle Creek and works at FireKeepers Casino, where he was riding his bike to when he was hit.

As of Thursday afternoon, Rose remained in critical condition at Borgess Medical Center in Kalamazoo, said hospital spokesman Lewis Tysman.

Friends and family members have shown an outpouring of support for the man they described on Facebook as “kind, loveable, sweet and great.”

Rose’s sister, Laurie Elizabeth Bentley, posted on her brother's Facebook page information for people to send cards: Borgess Medical Center, c/o Roger Rose-NCU, Bed 4, 1521, Kalamazoo, MI 49048.
