A Mercy General Health Partners spokesperson told WZZM-TV that Christopher Burroughs died earlier today.

Neighbors who witnessed a police officer shoot a man in Norton Shores late Thursday afternoon said the man was first waving a sword in the backyard of a home. Witnesses said Burroughs was wielding the 3- to 4-foot sword and shouting, "Shoot me! Shoot me!" They said Burroughs' girlfriend, who they had seen with a bloody face, called police.

The incident began around 5:15 p.m. at a home in the 600 block of East Sternberg Road, near the Muskegon County Airport. WZZM-TV reported the officer shot the suspect, injuring him.

Burroughs was listed in critical condition Thursday night at Hackley Hospital in Muskegon, according to a hospital spokeswoman.

The man's girlfriend, allegedly injured by Burroughs before the shooting, was listed in good condition Thursday night.

No officers were hurt, WZZM-TV reported.

That is so dumb!!! You go at a cop with a gun you get what you got coming. In a southern state a person talks back to the Sheriff - they get baton accross the teeth. In a southern state in an incident like Officer Flahive - that car would have had over 1,000 bullet holes in it. A southern Sheriff would have ruled it "worst case of suicide he has ever seen" end of story. In a southern state you never disrespect the Sheriff. You can somewhat mouth off to the deputies sometimes, rarely, but never the Sheriff. You will be toast. Watch walking tall - thats how things are done down there. How about Mississippi burning when Sheriff Stuckey says "rest of America doesn't mean jack &#it - your in mississippi now!"

You should move down South. Grand Haven is no place for you with that type of mindset you carry. You give new definition to the term REDNECK there Barney.

I read in the Chronicle that this was the second person this police officer has shot & killed. The first one had a knife and the officer was cleared of any wrongdoing. Someone needs to get these Bozos some tazers!

Officers are ruthless these days.

43 must be your IQ, 43 degrees north. Tasers work sometimes as I witnessed first hand when police tried to remove a person from my apartment building and it didn't work. Two officers were injured in the fight because they thought they could count on this piece of equipment. Last time this office used his gun the suspuct "STABBED" the officer in the leg first. I'm happy the officer decide to not let an idiot with a sword get that close this time. Get the facts before expressing your ignorance. $1 dollar worth of bullets saved us hard working tax payers $150,000 in annual fees to house these police attackers. I say get the "BOZO"S (as you call them) more bullets.

Horst, you are a frickin IDIOT. Shoot first, ask questions later. YOU should be one of the Bozos, but I'm sure you couldn't make the cut.

The Military Swords was often used as a symbol of the term of God.The manufacturers given to many swords in belief fictional performs and history indicate the excellent popularity of the device and the achievements of the owner.
