A Mercy General Health Partners spokesperson told WZZM-TV that Christopher Burroughs died earlier today.
Neighbors who witnessed a police officer shoot a man in Norton Shores late Thursday afternoon said the man was first waving a sword in the backyard of a home. Witnesses said Burroughs was wielding the 3- to 4-foot sword and shouting, "Shoot me! Shoot me!" They said Burroughs' girlfriend, who they had seen with a bloody face, called police.
The incident began around 5:15 p.m. at a home in the 600 block of East Sternberg Road, near the Muskegon County Airport. WZZM-TV reported the officer shot the suspect, injuring him.
Burroughs was listed in critical condition Thursday night at Hackley Hospital in Muskegon, according to a hospital spokeswoman.
The man's girlfriend, allegedly injured by Burroughs before the shooting, was listed in good condition Thursday night.
No officers were hurt, WZZM-TV reported.
