Dennis Edwards was the director of the Grand Haven Department of Public Safety until he was placed on administrative leave in November 2010 over a dispute with City Manager Pat McGinnis. Edwards said the dispute was over the legality of city speed limits.
Grand Haven City Council voted 3-1 in February 2011 to terminate Edwards.
In December, council approved the hiring of a retired Cadillac public safety director, 47-year-old Jeff Hawke, as Grand Haven’s public safety director. He began work in January.
