William Howerton is accused of setting an American flag on fire at a Grandville Comerica Bank and inside a store at the RiverTown Crossings shopping mall.

Howerton was first arrested earlier this month for flag-burning cases in Ottawa County. One incident was at Hudsonville City Hall and the other was in front of the Ottawa County Road Commission garage in Georgetown Township.

Investigators said Howerton is angry with the federal government and believes it is responsible for the Sept. 11, 2001, terrorist attacks.
