The Norton Pines Athletic Club will host a Community Family Fun Night, in memory of Nikolas Wypa, from 5-8 p.m. Friday. The club is at 1350 Judson Road in Norton Shores, just west of U.S. 31.

The sweet-natured 6-year-old, who was said to always have a smile, died after ingesting a small rock or stone during field day activities June 4 at Churchill Elementary School in Norton Shores.

“He was the sunshine of our life,” his grandmother, Carol Bodenberg, said after the tragedy.

The cost to attend the event is $8 per person, $15 for a family of two adults and up to four children, and $10 for one adult and with one child.

All proceeds will be donated to the Wypa Family Fund.

“Some employees knew the family and wanted to do something to help them out and stay close to them,” Norton Pines General Manager Jori Bourdon said.

The event will include silent auctions and a donation jar. Inside the club, there will be activities including a rock wall, bounce house, open swimming, family whirlpool, open gym and basketball. Booyah’s Sports Bar and Domino’s Pizza will donate food.
