Kristin of Grand Haven passes a long-vacant CITGO gas station on the city's east side, and wonders if it will ever reopen.

"I just wondered if anyone had inquired as to the status of the gas station on the corner of Waverly and Beechtree," she asked. "Are there any plans for it at this point? Who owns it?"

ANSWER:

We asked another Kristin, Grand Haven City Planner Kristin Turkelson, for the lowdown.

"As far as we understand, Bulk (the fuel company that owns the property) is in the process of selling it and they us it's about to close on the sale," Turkelson responded. "They have been saying this for a couple of months now."

Turkelson said the city has begun the process to condemn the building and has issued several letters noting "tall grass" violations for the property.

"Unfortunately, we have not seen a whole lot of cooperation with the current owners," she said on July 19. "The owner (had) until the end of (July) to respond to our condemnation letter."
