Firefighters responded at 10:53 a.m. to a parking lot behind the strip mall at the corner of Beacon and Taylor, where the truck driver had just dumped the smoldering load.

Allied Waste driver Brian Zehner of Hesperia said he had just pulled into Taco Bell to empty the restaurant's waste container when he saw smoke coming out near the front of his truck. Zehner said he drove the truck across Taylor Avenue and into the parking lot where he could safely dump the load.
