Bonnie Beebe and Cindy Baldus opened BC Chicken Shack, 207 N. Seventh St., on June 25. Sisters, Beebe and Baldus have a combined 50-plus years of food service experience. The restaurant's name is a combination of their first names.
“We’ve always wanted to have our own chicken restaurant,” Beebe said. “It took us a while.”
Baldus said she wasn’t working at her manufacturing job when she decided that it was time to look into her dream of owning a restaurant. “I had been on disability at my job,” she said.
Baldus said the toughest part was financing the new business. With a business plan and a goal in mind, she came upon the Seventh Street location and decided to give the restaurant a go.
“I took my 401(k) and we gutted (the building), and redid it all with my family and friends,” Baldus said. “It took six weeks to get it ready.”
The location was previously home to Charlie Mac’s for many years, and for short times in recent years as One Eye’d Jacks and Sarah’s Diner.
“We knew that we had to gut it and start fresh,” Baldus said.
The restaurant is open from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. Monday through Saturday.

These women have worked hard to start a business and I wish them good luck. That being said, they certainly deserved to be photographed better than this! Jeeze.

I completely agree. I've noticed, as well as others I've spoken to, that this Alex Doty takes horrible photos of the people he interviews. They have been published online as well as in the paper. I don't believe it's too hard to take a quality photo of someone. I can only assume he's doing this intentionally, so my message to him is to grow up and be a bit more professional.
It is wonderful to have such a great new place in Centertown. Their fish is good too!
